Sameer Mishra won 2008 Scripps National Spelling Bee championship on 30th May. It was another year in which lot of kids of Indian origin made into final rounds. Sidharth Chand, Samia Nawaz, Kavya shivshankar, Jahnavi Iyer and Sameer Mishra made into list of top 10. http://public.spellingbee.com/public/results/finishers They all love Math and Science. Most of them want to become doctors (that surprised me as none of them said they want to become engineer). For American Indian kids to make into finals has become a kind of trend since last few years. Their continued success is quite fascinating.What makes these American Indian kids to do so well in this competition? Is it that they are following some kind of trend like Russian girls becoming tennis stars or is it about inborn talent which lot of American Indian kids share, that makes it possible for them to excel in this competition. It would be interesting to follow these kids’ career paths. I hope these kids do well in their lives and achieve their dreams.

I think this would be the latest fad to hit India in a short while :-D
And some jokers would later hijack the event saying why English is given priority lets have it in vernacular languages as well

It's great idea to start this competition on grand scale in India.It would generate lot of interst in masses.But you are correct Sajiv,it could also be dragged into foolish muddle if it gains popularity
Thanks Anshuman for this post.......when i read your post i became aware of this competition.....checked out the website and was surprised to see the telecast on espn today. I enjoyed the final round a lot and american indians topping the list was like an icing on the cake!!
